Real-time blackhole list services overview

Real-time blackhole lists (RBLs) are used to list the servers and domains of organisations that have been identified as senders of junk email.

There are two kinds of RBL:

IP-based server blacklists (ip4r RBLs) are lists of IP addresses of servers that have been identified as sending or relaying junk email.
Sender domain blacklists (rhsbl RBLs) are lists of domain names from the return-path address on received junk email messages.

When your mail server first receives a mail message from a remote server, MailWasher Server checks the remote server's IP address against each of the IP based server blacklists you have selected, and checks the SMTP return-path address's domain name parts against each of the sender domain blacklists you have selected.

MailWasher Server can be configured to use any combination of RBLs, or none at all. RBL services are run by third parties unaffiliated to Firetrust Limited. There are a number of different RBL services, some of which are public and some of which are provided on a subscription basis. Each RBL lists servers or domains based on it's own policy, so you should carefully evaluate the RBL to ensure it matches your needs. Please note that Firetrust Limited makes no representation, warranty or guarantee as to the reliability or efficacy of third-party RBL services.
