The FirstAlert! service access page displays.

Select the Check incoming email against FirstAlert! checkbox if you want to enable this function, and then select the radio button corresponding to how you will connect to FirstAlert!

note FirstAlert! provides the main anti-junk mail functionality for MailWasher Server and should not normally be disabled.

If you do not have a FirstAlert! account, you can buy the appropriate license here

To use the FirstAlert! service, MailWasher Server must connect to external FirstAlert! servers. If you are behind a firewall, you may need to either use a SOCKS proxy or open a port in your firewall. The FirstAlert! service is located on port 4051.

Select either:

Connect directly to FirstAlert! and go to Step 6, or
Use a SOCKS5 proxy to access FirstAlert! and go to Step 5.

4

Complete the following fields:

Proxy server hostname - enter the hostname of the proxy server you want to use to connect to FirstAlert!
Proxy server port - enter the port on which the proxy server is located. SOCKS5 proxies normally use port 1080.

Click nextbutton. The Testing the FirstAlert! service settings page displays, and MailWasher server attempts to connect to the FirstAlert! service. This may take several seconds.

note If MailWasher Server cannot connect to the FirstAlert! service, an error message will appear, and the wizard will return to step 5. Read the information on firewalls and proxies above, and then correct the settings and retry.

If MailWasher Server connects successfully displays the message The FirstAlert! service has been successfully set up. Click nextbutton to continue. The Statistical Content Filtering page is displayed.

The Statistical Content Filtering page allows for configuration of bayesian filtering so MailWasher Server can learn to distinguish between spam you receive and legitimate email. This approach is at its most accurate when users are getting the same types of email.

Sensitivity works as follows:

More conservative - Likely to not block as much spam, and less likely to block legitimate email.

More aggressive - Likely to block more spam, but more likely to block legitimate email.

Two options are available to train the filters. We recommend you select the option to collect the first 100 messages and classify them as spam or not spam. MailWasher Server will continue to train these filters based on FirstAlert! matches.

Click nextbutton The Primary email domain page displays.

7

Enter the main email domain that will be served by this installation in the Main email domain: field and click nextbutton. The System email addresses page displays.

8

Enter the appropriate system email addresses in the From address: and Return-path address fields.

note The From address must be a valid email address; blank email addresses are not permitted. No mail is sent to this address automatically, so it does not need to be set up with your mail server. However, if the recipients reply to any of the system messages the reply would be sent to this address, so you may prefer to use an address that is delivered to someone who can help users with any problems or questions they have.

note The return-path address receives bounces when messages sent by MailWasher Server itself bounce (not junk mail that is being blocked with the bounce option). If you want a particular user to review and manage bounces, set this field to their email address. If you do not want to monitor these bounce messages, leave the field blank, in which case your mail server should silently drop the messages.

Click nextbutton. The Initial Account Import and Setup page displays.

This screen allows you to import user's email addresses to setup your user accounts.
