How to configure message quarantining

The purpose of this task is to set the MailWasher Server message quarantine options. Permission for users to directly download quarantined messages can be set and a standard email notification of the receipt of quarantined mail can be configured.

This task can also be used to specify the required action to be taken if a quarantined email message is received for which there is no corresponding user account in MailWasher Server.

Steps

Complete the following steps to configure message quarantining.

From the MailWasher Server home page menu, select Message quarantining. The System Configuration – Message Quarantining page displays.

Complete the following fields:

Store quarantined messages for X days - enter the number of days after which quarantined messages are removed.

note Statistics for removed messages remain.

Send summary of quarantined emails to recipients - checkbox to indicate you want a summary of quarantined messages to be sent to the recipient.
every X days - use the drop down selection list to specify the frequency with which to send the quarantined message summaries.
or after X messages - enter the number of unsummarised quarantined emails before an additional quarantined email summary is sent to the recipient.

note If 0 is entered, then this feature is disabled and the summaries are sent at the frequency specified in the every field.

note Summary emails are not sent if there have been no messages quarantined since the last summary was sent.

In the Quarantined message summary email template area, enter the required text for the subject and notification text of the quarantined message summary email.

noteThe following tokens can be used:

[messagelist] – the list of quarantined messages (those quarantined since the last summary was sent).
[summaryinterval] – the number of days since the last summary.
[username] – the username for the account.

Select the Allow users to directly download rescuable messages checkbox if you want to enable this function.

Select the required handling of quarantined email When no corresponding user account is found for one of the original recipients of a quarantined message, by selecting the required radio button. To have MailWasher Server:

discard the message, select the Discard the message radio button.
assign the message to a specific account, select the Assign the message to ... radio button, and use the drop down selection list to the right of the radio button to select a recipient.
create a new user account for the recipient email address, select the Create a new user account for that recipient email address radio button.

 

When this option is selected, a new user account is created with a username that is based on the email address itself, and a randomly generated password. The new account has only the View quarantined email permission. See Accounts overview (LINK!!) to modify the account.

 

After creating the account, MailWasher Server will send a 'New account created' email to the owner of the new account, giving them their username and password. Enter the required subject and notification text for the this email in the 'New account created' email template fields.

note The following tokens can be used:

[username] – the username of the new account.
[password] – the randomly generated password of the new account.

Click updatebutton to save the message quarantine options.

The System Configuration page displays. This task is now complete.
