The purpose of this task is to configure MailWasher Server to check incoming mail against the FirstAlert! content filtration system, and to specify how MailWasher Server should connect to the FirstAlert! service.
Steps
Complete the following steps to configure FirstAlert! access.

From the MailWasher Server home page menu, select FirstAlert! access. The System Configuration - FirstAlert! access page displays.

Select the Check incoming email against FirstAlert! checkbox if you want MailWasher Server to perform this check.
If this option is not selected, then the FirstAlert! category settings do not apply and cannot be changed.

Select the appropriate connection option radio button.
To use the FirstAlert! service, MailWasher Server must connect to external FirstAlert! servers. If you are behind a firewall, you may need to either use a SOCKS proxy or open a port in your firewall. The FirstAlert! service is located on port 4051.
Select either:
| ▪ | Connect directly to FirstAlert!, and go to Step 5, or |
| ▪ | Use a SOCKS5 proxy to access FirstAlert! and continue at Step 4. |

If you have chosen to connect to FirstAlert! using a SOCKS5 proxy, complete the following fields:
| ▪ | Proxy server hostname - enter the hostname of the proxy server you want to use to connect to FirstAlert!. |
| ▪ | Proxy server port - enter the port on which the proxy server is located. |
Most SOCKS5 proxies use port 1080.
| ▪ | Username - if required, enter a username for the proxy server. |
| ▪ | Password - if required, enter a password for the proxy server. |

Click to save the FirstAlert! configuration. The System Configuration page displays. This task is now complete.

If you want to edit FirstAlert! category settings, select FirstAlert! category settings. See How to edit FirstAlert! category settings.
FirstAlert! category settings cannot be changed unless the Check incoming email against the FirstAlert! checkbox is selected, since they do not apply unless you are using FirstAlert! to filter email.
