Confucius says "The cautious seldom err"

I really enjoy my Xbox 360, as I’m sure many others do too

It pains me though when I read about their 360 units breaking, especially the dreaded Three Rings of Death....which sounds like something out of a J.R.R Tolkien book

Three Rings to rule them all, Three Rings to find them,

Three Rings to bring them all and in the darkness wreck my damn Xbox 360 turning it into a bloody massive paperweight

But I digress..

Today we received a disturbing report via SiteHound from a student in France who was studying (I believe) economics and was looking for a decent deal on an Xbox 360. After a week of contact via email and chat with the fadretail.com site, he believed they were trustworthy and also were offering the product at the right price. He proceeded to send them the 200 Euros, which equates to about half price, but then he suddenly stopped hearing from them and with no Xbox 360, no Euros, he’s completely out of pocket.

Now, upon closer inspection of this website, there are many bells that should be ringing.

Some of you may feel that these are reasons enough to avoid this kind of site entirely, but when the population of internet users don’t have the same education and instruction on such things, and especially considering this person was in contact with the website operators for over a week, some forgiveness for the mistake can be made. Even more so because it was an Xbox 360 involved, now you’ve really pushed my sympathy button.

Some people may suggest not to shop from overseas, but I can also understand shopping in other countries, I myself purchase many things from overseas...the New Zealand dollar is so high right now against the Yank, that’s just good economics.

OK, so at this point, we’ve got one dude, who’s been ripped off...and with a bit more digging around he probably could have avoided this.

So we looked into this further, and the website that was reported to us. The results were scary, not just the number of other sites out there, but also the diversity of the product they sell.

Here’s just a few other chinese sites that we believe have some kind of association with the same people who took poor Frenchy’s money. They are all very likely scams and will very likely rip you off.

And trust me when I say, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Hello,
i have also problems with wtosky.com. I buyed there two mixers an a beamer. For that i payed the price of the goods, for the duty and for the shipping transfer and now .... i have nothing. What i can do to get my money back? Is it possible to indicate them?

Submitted by chris on Sat, 2007-07-28 01:21.

Hi blackjackpg

I don't know what options are available to get the money back, the general feeling on these kinds of scams seems to be that once the money is gone there is nothing you can do. However I'm going to try asking some questions and see if I can get any answers.

Can you tell me what method you used to pay for the items ?

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

Hi, I nearly loss $883 australian dollar today, luckily I browse and I saw your posting regarding chinese site and the site that I was dealing was written in your list. "http://www.osdgm.com". The guy that's answering my email was 'tuyguiuhoo' was really patient and keen to answer my question. I had to order from them, one is the mobile phone worth $47 and the other is 3x set of xbox worth 160euro each and when I told them that I had paid the 3x set of xbox through westernunion. They sent me invoice and details of the mobile that they had processed and ready to post. I was shock because I told them that the payment is for the xbox. I been waiting for their reply and until now they havent answer me. I able to refund my payment with westernunion but I lost the $30 fee..Its better than $800..thanks alot for your site..keep up the good work..

is there any trustworthy legite trade sites out there that u dont have to worry about getting ripped off from

Submitted by chris on Fri, 2007-08-03 01:57.

Yes, there are many trustworthy sites.   But do research on them first.

For example, one site I purchase from myself is www.play-asia.com who I find excellent, both in terms of price and delivery.  Obviously they don't seem quite as cheap as the scam sites, but when you will actually receive the goods you order, I think that's a small price to pay :)

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 2007-08-01 17:00.

Something about the deal sounded too good to be true! Thanks for the heads up! I was in the process of placing an order for 2-42 inch LCD TV and a 17" Mac book pro from one of these sites. I would have lost so much money!

Submitted by chris on Fri, 2007-08-03 01:54.

Wow....yes you would have.  I'm glad it helped :)

I was conned out of $400 AUD for a GPS navigator I never received. I feel like an idiot, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. I didn't do my research properly. They contacted me through ebay on 2 seperate occasions and liased with me for a week through the website www.scaway.com before I made payment. They gave me Bank of China details to deposit the money and even sent me an email saying they received payment and said they would send the item (to buy more time). Is there any internet fraud department that would be interested in these details? I know I wont get any money back but I hope I can save others making the same mistake?

Submitted by chris on Mon, 2007-08-06 12:12.

Hi there

The first step would be your local police, however given the scale and number of victims, it would be awesome if the Australian Federal Police got involved.  Check out http://www.ahtcc.gov.au/tech_crimes_types/fraud.htm for more information on this.

Cheers

Huh... My coworker bought a laptop from osdgm.com and got it. he brought it into work to show us. It's very nice. he only paid about half price of what he could get it in a store here. I'm not saying that these sites are not scams, but i do know that osdgm.com is not one of them.

funny - most of these sites look almost the same (including osdgm.com) and some have similar contact information. but osdgm also sells on ebay and when my coworker showed me, had a 100% rating.

yes, i was wary, because i had found this thread before he had got his laptop, and i told him about it. but he got it. i was also wary because the site had only existed for a few weeks at the time that he ordered it.

my coworker used western union to transfer the money, and the money wasn't taken out until the package was marked as delivered.

I'm now thinking of buying somethings off it now and reselling them on ebay myself.

also, osdgm.com updates every week or two and adds a few new products (and removes a few too). I'm going to wait until my coworker buys more from osdgm.com just to make sure they don't try anything (he is about to buy another laptop and a cell phone).

Submitted by chris on Wed, 2007-08-08 09:23.

FFS......if only stupidity was painful.

Let's take a closer look at www.osdgm.com

A quick Google search on this website reveals some interesting posts.

This one here which (in Spanish) talks about a user being ripped off with a transaction involving a motorcycle.

And further discussion (still in Spanish) on it here

Then let's look at the date that www.osdgm.com was first registered.
http://whois.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=osdgm.com
28th June 2007

Quick check on their website and it says....2000....huh...what ?

Let's try their listed phone number from the website then. Another quick Google search.

Nothing to worry about there, they only share this phone number with
www.fadretail.com
www.fairpdt.com
www.prevailshoes.com
www.wesob.com
www.voguedm.com
www.gleedw.com
www.dvivb.com

But then all those sites have different email address and Skype contacts, and Hotmail addresses too.

Let's also mention that the phone number listed in the Who Is results above is fake. not a typo. Fake.

tel: 86 010 12345678

In that Google search there was also a mention of the phone number here
http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=7630&page=6
But again, what would fraudwatchers.org know about fraud.

Well then what about the payment options

Western Union.
Money Gram.
Direct Bank Transfer.
So what if none of these payment methods give the buyer any fraud protection

So then let's go back to the what you've said.

One person received one item, so suddenly they are legitimate ? Bullshit.

We've never heard of eBay users gettings their accounts hacked either have we.

Of course too you can't forge eBay feedback, I mean, just because there is over 1200 websites, that doesn't mean this is organized and have many people involved.

And lastly, one guy gets his $500 laptop sent, so then friends and family place orders that will probably come to several thousand dollars.

Sure most people don't go to the lengths I have to check out a site, but it shows with a little investigation how much you can find out. If you are still convinced this site is legit then by all means, order up large.

This is a scam artist, I have done business with this guy for about 2 years. He will send you stuff C.O.D. but it won't be more than $100-150. They do that to build your trust so you can send a lot of money and then they will disappear. So don't trust him or her. If they want to send you stuff C.O.D take it and pay for that but other than that don't deal with them.

I have tried to reach Justine for about 1 month now. Here is the story, I sent this guy Justine $1000 USD, he took that money and I never heard from him again. He sent me an email on the 27th of September and told me he send me a nice order which mind you i paid for. I never heard from this guy again. I have tried all the email addresses that he has on his site and the phone numbers, he don't respond to anything. I have tried to get money back from this guy and he don't respond to anything. Don't send Justine any money first. He talks about how good of a supplier he is, he is a scam artist and he took my money and he will take yours too. Only do C.O.D with this supplier. He saw my reply and tried to convince you he is a good guy, don't buy it. Justine if you are reading this, here is your email address: http://www.huichuangtrading.com, raokaihui@hotmail.com- I have not recieved any mail from the email address since he sent me the last message telling me he sent my box, but I never received it and it has been a month now. JUSTINE RAO is your Instant Messenger name. You haven't been online since, it you are a good man like you tell everyone, then you should contact me about either my order or my money. I order products from you so MAN UP AND KEEP YOUR WORD YOU LIAR.

osdgm.com placed a spam comment on someone's ebay listing. I decided to check out their site, and of course the low prices look incredible.

Western Union being a payment option was the first alarm bell.

I searched google for the term osdgm.com and found this page.

What I find scary is the fact that so many sites are exactly the same. Very suspicious. Only a little of the formatting is different.

Where do I go online to file fraud complaints? Can I do it with the FBI? thanks, sorry to sound dramatic but like many others it takes our family alot of work to set aside and then throw away $554. Beth

Submitted by chris on Mon, 2007-08-20 04:59.

Your local police should take the complaint, though typically they are dismissive.  With some gentle persuasion you hopefully can get tehm to point you in the right direction.

With regards to the FBI, check out the Internet Crime Complaint Center here http://www.ic3.gov

Am very VERY glad that I stumbled accross this website. Was looking around on www.cieuo.com and prices seemed too good to be true. However I was a little skeptical on the fact that a IT store sold both DJ equiptment and Motorcycles!

Still... it didn't deter me as the low prices were getting the better of me. I went to register for a Western Union account and subconsciously thought, "let's do a google search on the URL and see if any bad feedback comes up about the site..."

Well, my concerns were definately answered when I came accross this blog. Thanks Chris and everyone else who as shon some light back into my head! Guess it's back to the good 'ol store shopping in person for me.

Ok there is a serious issue here, I lost money paying wtosky.com but i used paypal!! They did absolutely nothing and I have emailed them maybe 30 times. They even made money from the deal. They are equally as criminal and this is the 3rd time i have lost with paypal. Please email me if this has happened to you, something needs to be done.

I have been cheated by www.bmrgn.com for £912. This guy or girl's email address is manitou55planes@188.com They sell televisions, cameras and other electrical applicances on the website. The phone number they listed doesn't work. When I see them on the MSN with questions such as no goods have been received etc. they don't reply at all. They sent me a bank account details in Beijing, China, under name JI XIAOJIE. I think I will call the police at their local area in China. I am not sure this will work but I will give it a try.

DO NOT TRADE WITH THIS WEBSITE.

Submitted by chris on Tue, 2007-09-04 02:26.

No, I don't believe www.dhgate.com to be safe.   It's setup to be a Chinese export wholesale marketplace, and as a result it's being targetted heavily by scammers.

Though DHgate have made some efforts to prevent the scammers, it's not enough to justify me saying that even is all OK.

Heres a good read from other users experiences

Hi everybody, just make more money by trading smart on web>> go to www.DHgate.com. Man, mega bargains from millions of product categories directly from China! It has thousands of customers from close to 40 countries, choosing from over 10 million listings sourced from 100,000 certified sellers. And since these sellers all are from China, their prices are unbelievably low too. If you have any issue contact their helpful customer services or even buyer evangelist. Now a note of caution-Never take shortcuts on web! Yes thats right!...never break rules and bypass the official system. Remember to use only www.DHgate.com's escrow system as that protects your payment against bad supplies. And if the supplier is genuinely interested in doing trade long term (thats the hallmark of serious businesses) he will never tell you to break trade rules...judge sellers by their rule following abilities...and trust tried and well researched rules on web...like escrow to buy cheap yet safe! Go shop with confidence and make more profits too all at China trading marketplace www.dhgate.com

I have recently been researching these sites as I'm trying to set up my internet business (legit) and have found some hints: sony never released playstation 3 in China all these consoles are either resold through USA or Canada or fakes I got caught out by www.superll8.com.
No legitimate wholesalers will contact you and If by chance they do they will not tell you price straight up. I now have a few rules I follow: If they will not give you their Business registration number, scam. If they do give it have it verified; If they only accept western union or T/T, scam. Its all about doing your homework. www.siming trading even produced a business registration certificate and when I had someone check it, turned out to be Fijian based raw chemical supply license. Do your own research and cover your asses

File a complaint with Police, and assuming I've got it right, and you're in Canada, then here is a list of authorities.  I'm not certain which one is best.

You can also find freight forwarders that will investigate any of these companies. Don not buy unless you have retained a firm to check them out. Pleasse study the Alibaba site. Hi. I am guessing these are obvious scams, but I really like the products they offer.
www.packshoes.com I see they have the western union payment thing and prom Putian with no exact address. I know this sounds very shady, do you know if it is for sure. It also seems very similar to buycheapsneakers.com because the products are VERY similar. I also would like to know about Tradesneakers.com.

If these are all scams, do you know a legitimate site/business that offers hoodies of these sorts. Thank You. sam

Submitted by chris on Tue, 2007-10-23 01:58.

www.tradesneakers.com seems like a parked website, and not being used for anything specific ?

The other two sites I would not trust at all.

As far as legitimate sites, if you want proper branded product, go to the appropriate brands website.

The second site is already in the list.  How did you pay for the goods, if by money order or bank transfer, then you put yourself at risk to save a few bucks.

There's a reason retailers cost more, its because they build their business around providing a higher quality service, quality goods, and proper customer protections.  You want to avoid these costs but still get the above ?

iofferbest.com looks like counterfeit junk to me, adding to the list.

I am an ebay seller and i purchased 3 orders for customers through them totalling 1000.00 and sent the money via wester union. I searched up and down the web before i dealt with the business and did not see anything on them for fraud. So i took that as them being a legitimate business. So i sent the money and a day later they sent me 3 tracking numbers for the orders. But it has been over 2 weeks now and the tracking numbers still do not show up on them.THe customers are frustrated and so am I.I have contacted them everyday and they said that i had to pay and extra 300 for custom fees and i did and they said that they sent it off. So now i am emailing them and they do not respond so i feel like i have lost out on the customers money and mine. What can i do to get their money back and mine and where can i report this at. Also what happens if i cant afford to give the customers back their money. I am a military wife and mother of 3 infants and i cant afford to go to jail or pay these people back. WHAT SHOULD I DO?? Greed is bad, there is no such thing as buying current model product below wholesale. This is not different that the Nigerian scams, blind greed will ruin your life.

While I dont know your actual situation, I guess you already got paid via Paypal. Next step is your buyers will file complaints, your Paypal account will go into overdraft, and you will get email from Paypal requesting to add founds or else...

Go to local Police and file a complaint.  That's probably about all you can do, but given your process was reckless at best, you likely are going to have to be liable for these losses.

Submitted by DeeC (not verified) on Tue, 2008-03-04 02:52.

To be honest with you , theres really nothing you can do, except never buy " authentic" items from china. They only have replicas.
Also the only time you have to pay customs fees is when your country charges you custom fees, and the reason why they do that is because, for example: you buy a iphone from china for $250usd , but they put the value on the customs form for $20usd , if customs randomly take your package and inspect it and see that you have an iphone and the value isnt correct they will tax you extra money and you would have to pay your local post office in order to receive the item.

I have been talking to "Anita" via hotmail from a company called viisoon.com I do believe... and she wants me to of course use western union... it only $144 but still... it's money ... and also I made a small order for $340 through paypal with another company called josluxury.com I just paid today... it said she was verified and had 90 trust points... this has been the best seller I have found yet... and there are a few big ones on dhgate that take visa and have good feedbacks...which I can do a charge back right? I am so freakin frustrated... any help to point me in the right direction would be awesome... I am going to skip out on the western union payment for now... and hopefully I can find some sdvice about the dhgate stuff... THaNK YoU!!! Gail

Have you read the guide I posted ?

Never pay by Western Union.

The sites you list all seem to be selling fake stuff anyway, you just can't buy these kinds of brands from China, so you're potentially running a risk by importing counterfeit goods.

DHGate is taking postive steps, just never deviate from their advice. Don't let scammers talk you into paying by other means etc..

Great site, I'm new to this wholesale kinda deal but I've been looking around sites for ages now without finding a turstworthy one. I pretty much come with two rules, if you don't have a real email (not a free one) and if they dont accept my cc then I'll pass.. Also, the business itself should have a proper domain name registered atleast 6 months back in time.

Anyways. Great site, keep up the good work for us serious traders out there!

Thanks Robert.   I think too you may benefit from getting involved with www.thewholesaleforums.co.uk as well.  Plenty of other wholesalers hang round there and I am sure can offer some really useful advice.

Chris,

This is a tough one I think, http://www.jmexport.com/
Seems to be american but with a free mail. Number given out and well.. MOQ seems resonable.. What do you think?

Submitted by chris on Mon, 2007-12-17 02:14.

I think they are probably affiliated with a Chinese company selling counterfeit goods.

From their FAQ

2) Is there paperwork provided for your products?
No, as they are surplus stock lots, we are not able to provide any form of documentation.

15) What happens if my goods get stuck in customs?
We are aware from experience that couriers play a significant role in this trade as we are dependent on them not only for smooth deliveries but for customs clearances. We have identified the ones who are able to clear customs quickly, hassle free. Though their shipping charges may be significantly higher, it guarantees the delivery. None of our shipments have been detained by customs. However, should any be confiscated, we will not be liable for any loss.

So ask yourself, with no proper documentation, and with no real guarantee the goods will make it through customs.   Seems very suspicious to me.

Then if we look at the WhoIs we see this

Registrant:
   Domains by Proxy, Inc.
   DomainsByProxy.com
   15111 N. Hayden Rd., Ste 160, PMB 353
   Scottsdale, Arizona 85260
   United States

Which means they've taken steps to prevent folks like us from seing the tru owner of the website, and we must ask ourselves why would they do that ?

hello,

today i found your website.
i think it´s to late for me.
because i have follow problem, i get a email via my eBay account.
than i take a look on this site, and i see good items for a good price.
than i found an hotmail adress, that adress i put in my MSN account.
on the other side is a pretty lady. she is a worker from this company. i ask her for some items. she gives me always an answer.
than i ask her, what is my warrenty to get the goods, if i order it?
she means, TRUST is the importend thing in buisness.

ok ... i think it will be OK !!!

i have already a china deal .. and this one works perfect!

so i make a order in this webshop.

3 mobiles, 1 xbox360 EU vers. with 4 games.
goods have a price 520,- EUR incl. shipping to AUSTRIA.

ok .. its a good price .. not too cheep.
i tell her, i will pay over western union, because i need the phones this friday. she means, it can be critical, but they make it, that i get the parc. until friday.

i go to my western union and pay it. send her the INFO she need to get the money. she reported me, that she gets the money and they will send the goods today.

after 1-2 hours, i ask for a trak&trace no. ...
after 5 min. she gives me follow .. EA825708525CN ... it´s a EMS sending.

OK .. i´m very happy.

one day later, she send me an email .. i have to pay 268,- EUR TARIFF for the custom house in CHINA ?!?!?!?!

i tell her, that can´t be, because i dont have to pay TARIFF in china, because i pay TARIFF in my country!!! after the parc. arievs our custom house!

NO no way .. i have to pay it . because the parcel dont will come to austria, because its "BLOCKED" in there custom house. and they will give it free, after they recieved the money!!!

so now i dont know what to do .. if i send the money, than i´m not sure, if i get the goods.

because the tracking no., i can´t track on http://www.ems.com.cn/english-main.jsp ...

i think, for normal i have to track the no.
the minimum what i have to read on the tracking page, that the parcel is in china custom house .. so i think .. OR NOT ???

the shop is in your LIST .. but what now .. ?!?!

she give me phone no. of the china custom house, the company.

is this the phone no. from china custom house?

+86010/65194114 and if it is ... can somebody check for me, does the parcel exist?

i try the phone no. but the person dont understand me .. i try in english and in german .. but nothing.

PLEASE HELP ME .. just somebody tell me, if the parcel exist in the custom house or not. !!!

and the suspect is, all the shops in your list, are from BEIJING ..
my first order was in SHANGHAI and the secound tooo .. and there was no problem!

THX allot ..

Hey Guys, I would like to know if fyltrade.com, lloooo.com, tradekeygolden.com, or williamtrade2.com are scammers or real business people?
Thank you so much.

I wouldn't trust any of these sites.   The first, is already in the list, the second seems offline, and the others are selling branded goods that you cannot buy from China like this. If you want the real thing that is.

Hello,
I was planning to buy a laptop from China, worth around 350 euros from this website: www.idgcweb.com.
Ive made the payment through Western Union, but now the company wants me to pay an additional 120 euros, as they say the product is held at customs and they won't release it until I pay.
The company uses EMS as a courier. Im not sure if I have to pay thew company more money (as its a third of the value of the product). I dont know if all of this is suspicious or not.
The company send me copies of the EMS shipping form and Ive tried to track the shipping nr, but nothing shows up.
Does anyone have similiar experiences!
Your help would really be appreciated!

Thank you

This is very common, and is done to get more money from you.  I suggest you check out this post and treat the situation as a scam.

Hi!
Thank you very much for this great website! And thanks God that he safe my money!
I was looking through the internet deal to buy apple iphones. I find website WWW.FYLTRADE.COM. Today I had place order for big amount and pay via Western Union (this is just one payment option). VIVI this is the name of lady??? who wrote a lot of nice e-mails with super great offer that I accept.
Finally, in a two hours after payment has been made I find your website because some bad feeling push me to find this company detailed info. If you will go to www.alibaba.com (verify a company) on page 2 you can find comments from buyers who wrote that the company FYLTRADE.COM is fraud and scamm.
