A reminder to stop using ORDB blacklist

As you may or may not know, the RBL service known ORDB was discontinued in late 2006.

However recently in an effort to stop people from still sending requests to their servers to check their email against, they are now returning false positives. This means if you still you ORDB in MailWasher and have not yet removed it, all your email not set as a Friend will get marked as “Origin Blacklisted by ORDB”

All of this is not good news when you are trying to impress family and friends with your fancy email tricks and wonders.

We sent out a reminder about this in our last newsletter, but we are still getting a few emails from folk who have this service still configured, so we urge you to check this and remove it if present.

To remove ORDB from MailWasher:

MailWasher Free and MailWasher 6.0 or greater
Click Tools >> Options >> select Origin of Spam on the left >> highlight the entry relating to ORDB >> click Delete >> click Yes >> click OK.

MailWasher Free and MailWasher Pro 5.x and earlier
Click Spam Tools >> select Origin of Spam on the left >> highlight the entry relating to ORDB >> click Delete >> click Yes >> click OK.

Note : MailWasher Free users may need to update to the latest version to be able to do this, you can download the lastest version from http://mailwasher.net/download/?q=download

Now is 2008. You still not deleted the ORDB from the Setup package...

It was removed from MailWasher Pro some time ago, MailWasher Free is being altered to correct this.

Thanks

Origin of spam cannot be accessed with MW Free 5.1
Have had nothing but trouble trying to install 6.1 - have given up and gone back to 5.1 - will just have to untick "Delete" for all of my messages or kill off the program altogether. Too bad as I've had this on my machines for years.

Check out here for a patch that I think will likely correct the problem using MailWasher Free 6.

No luck with install using patch. Is there likely to be a user friendly version of MW Free any time soon? Specifically with the ORDB issue solved and the installation issues when attempting to overwrite 5.1 to 6.1 dealt with. I tried installing 6.1 a month or two ago with the same problems that I encountered today, so no improvements have been made yet.

Thanks.

I downloaded MailWasher Free in November or December 2007, but could not install it on my Windows XP operating system. Neither could I uninstall it from my system via Control Panel Remove. In trying to install or uninstall, I receive a message that mailwasher is running and I cannot install or uninstall. Today, I downloaded ver 6.1.1 of MailWasher Free and it still says MW is running and I can not install or uninstall. Please help me uninstall and get my system back to normal and regroup. Thanks.....
